In the first few decades of the company’s history, customers have to use a type chart to choose the right pump model. Today, the search function on KNF’s website makes this process much clearer and more user-friendly.

From KNF Vario to the KNF modular system

The areas and ways in which pumps and pump systems can be used are as diverse as life itself. KNF pumps are just as essential in espresso machines and digital inkjet printers as they are in dialysis machines and ventilators or research facilities CERN. They are equally indispensable in a wide range of applications used in laboratories, medical equipment, analytics, food technology, environmental protection, research, nuclear technology or chemical process engineering. In fact, KNF is ready to help its customers with whatever they are doing, manufacturing or researching.

It therefore comes as no surprise that a single pump design cannot meet the needs of all of these applications and environments. “One size fits all” is a mantra that doesn’t even really work with t-shirts. This is why, since the 1970s, KNF has been offering its customers a wide choice of designs and the freedom to select exactly what they require. This approach is initially called the KNF Vario system, but today it is known as the KNF modular system. A handful of series models are used as the basis for thousands of customized series model variants. Using this modular design principle, it is possible to tailor basic pump types.

“Viability through flexibility.” This is the phrase used by Erich Becker to describe products that are both revolutionary and evolutionary in every respect. The modular system allows products to be customized to fit a wide range of uses. By selecting and combining a variety of options – ranging from the material used to make the pump components that come into contact with the media, to the drive and the mechanical elements such as the circuit points and connections – it is easy to tailor every series model to meet its application-specific requirements. The configurations created in this way are based on tried-and-tested individual components.

If, despite all this, the modular system is unable to fulfil a specific requirement, KNF can manufacture a bespoke project pump on the basis of a product specification created together with the customer.

KNF’s maxim for ensuring flexibility is “If a customer has a problem, KNF can find the solution.” Regardless of whether a customer needs one hundred pumps or just ten or even one, KNF will deliver exactly what is required.
