Honey for a Good Cause

For KNF, the children’s happy smiles were the perfect reward for its charitable work in the local area

It takes a whole hive of bees working together to turn nectar into honey. KNF staff are united by the same spirit and joined forces to turn one member’s donated garden surplus into a charity fundraising drive.

The amateur beekeeper had collected around 100 kg of natural golden honey over the summer and posted on the company’s internal social media channel offering to share it with colleagues. Staff were able to bring in containers and fill them up in exchange for a donation. It was a wonderful idea that proved extremely popular. Six KNF locations took part, and more would have joined if not for the distance from the USA and Asia. A healthy four-figure sum was collected for donation to two non-profits in Freiburg, Germany.

Karin Wortelkamp from the Fundraising & Communication department at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg accepted 750 euros on behalf of the Center’s “Tigerherz” (Tiger Heart) project. KNF’s donation will help fund therapeutic play and creative activities for children who have a parent with cancer.

Anna-Verena Fronz accepted another 750 euros for the association “Stadtpiraten Freiburg” (City Pirates Freiburg). As managing director, she was delighted by this donation, which will enable a range of leisure and integration activities for children and young people who have come to the city as refugees. The money was handed over at the closing ceremony of the association’s autumn camp, where proud parents looked on as the little pirates presented the diligently crafted results from the camp’s activity workshops. For KNF, the children’s happy smiles were the perfect reward for its charitable work in the local area.
