Versatile Dosing combines modern software with state-of-the-art hardware. On the hardware side, a modern stepper motor and actively actuated valves enable high precision and operating modes that go beyond conventional diaphragm pump operation modes, like bi-directional flow. The proprietary software ensures minimal development effort for customers and makes system integration flexible and seamless.

Maximum Versatility Without Mechanical Adaptations

Conventional dosing pumps often require mechanical adjustments such as set screws to meet the specific needs of an application. With KNF’s intelligent pump feature Versatile Dosing, these adjustments are no longer necessary. The solution can be configured entirely electronically to achieve the desired dosing behavior. This also enables adjustments on the fly, allowing dosing parameters to be modified from shot to shot. Eliminating mechanical adjustments also significantly enhances reliability and safety because such adaptations are common sources of error and can compromise accuracy and precision.

Advanced Components for Precision Dosing

The high dosing precision and accuracy is achieved with a modern stepper motor that allows for partial strokes and stroke speed adjustments. It also enables a highly precise and accurate metering mode which reliably achieves the desired flow rate. The actively actuated valves further increase precision and make the pump flow tight both forward and backward. For even higher precision and accuracy, KNF has developed a special stiff diaphragm with a rigid support that ensures high repeatability under changing pressure conditions and a maximum pressure of up to 6 bar (rel.).

Engineered for Effortless System Integration

To make system integration as easy and seamless as possible, the intelligent dosing pump offers multiple connection options. It can be connected to the system via a 5-pin serial interface using UART TTL as a default with I2C, RS-232, and CAN bus as options. In addition, the pump offers a 12-pin interface for the input and output of digital and analog signals which works independently from the serial interface. To get started easily with the pump, KNF offers a USB connection to a PC and user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) which allows customers to control and test the pump comfortably and receive valuable pump data. Once the ideal dosing parameters are identified during testing, customers can submit them directly to KNF via the GUI to easily and reliably create a customized pump. The pump offers three different mounting fixtures, making installation simple and system integration flexible.

Performance Highlights at a Glance

The KNF FD 1.200 pump with intelligent Versatile Dosing has a shot volume range from 50 to 200 microliters, delivers a maximum flow rate of 40 ml/min, a maximum pressure of 6 bar (rel.), and a guaranteed suction height of at least 4.5 mH₂O in an empty state. It ensures outstanding accuracy of ±2% and exceptional precision (coefficient of variation) of ≤0.5%.

 

By default, the pump offers IP20 protection, with an optional upgrade to IP54 for more demanding environments. The pump head is made of chemically resistant PPS, while the housing consists of durable PP. For elastomers, customers can choose EPDM for all parts or opt for FFKM valves combined with a PTFE-coated EPDM diaphragm.

As with all KNF pumps, pumps with Versatile Dosing can be customized to specific application requirements. Depending on the media, the pump can be equipped with different materials for the wetted flow path components to make it chemically compatible. As mentioned above, there are extensive digital customization options. This allows the customer to perfectly match pump behavior to the media. For example, the intake and discharge stroke speeds can be individually adjusted to match the liquid’s viscosity, ensuring maximum pumping efficiency while reliably preventing fluidic problems like cavitation.
