Customized Fluid Solutions for Inkjet Printing

InPrint 2022

From March 15–17, end users and industry experts will come together for the fifth edition of InPrint, the international exhibition for industrial print technology, at the Messe München exhibition center in Munich.

KNF, the world’s leading supplier of diaphragm pumps, is among this year’s exhibitors and will be welcoming visitors at booth 2650. On show will be a whole selection of products never seen before at InPrint. The six new pump models provide the perfect foundation for efficient solutions for fluid transfer tasks at industrial printing.

What’s more, thanks to KNF’s modular system, all pumps can be adapted to individual requirements.

Minimal shearing forces

Sharp colors, precise printing results: KNF’s FP 70 and FP 150 Smooth Flow pumps come highly recommended for the continuous transfer of ink to the printhead. Both pump series combine the advantages of a diaphragm pump with the key strengths of gear and centrifugal pump technology. They are self-priming and safe to run dry and also ensure low-pulsation operation, which means there is no need for secondary measures to prevent pulsing or an additional suction pump in the printing system.

With its patented 4-point valves and highly compact design, the FP 70 reliably transfers ink to the printhead even at low rotational speeds. It also boasts a flow rate of up to 850 ml/min and excellent chemical resistance.

The flow rate of the FP 150 is infinitely adjustable up to a maximum of 1.3 l/min; plus the pump offers outstanding linearity between 10 and 100 percent of this value. Depending on the system set-up and speed, the pressure at the pump outflow is below 150 mbar at nominal flow rate, so even sensitive inks can be transported gently. The special 5-diaphragm design also means the pump generates minimal shearing forces and is capable of resisting a back pressure of up to 2 bar.

In addition to offering the ideal technical solution for ink transfer, the FP 70 and FP 150 Smooth Flow pumps are also the perfect solution for reliable ink circulation.

Precise vacuum

For reliable removing of dissolved gas from the ink and feed line, KNF’s new double-headed NMP 850 HP makes a great choice. The single-headed version of this micro diaphragm pump series is also perfect for generating a constant vacuum to create a meniscus effect at the printhead.

Clean printheads

Four of KNF’s new models are suitable for printhead cleaning and purging.

The brushless DC motor in the NPK 012 swing piston pump series allows for excellent adjustable control of the rotational speed. With a maximum power consumption of just 43 W, the NPK 012 also builds up 2.5 bar of high, continuous positive pressure, and up to 5 bar during intermittent operation.

When designing the new NPK 06 swing piston pump, developers focused on maximising the flow rate while keeping the pump size compact. And they certainly succeeded, since the NPK 06 boasts a flow rate of 8 l/min. In addition, the NPK 06 is extremely lightweight, weighing in at just 455 g.

The NMP 850 HP pump series offers a reliable solution for transferring cleaning solvent to the printheads. This micro diaphragm pump series is also excellent for purging. In both cases, the pump offers a flow rate of 7 l/min, an ultimate vacuum of 220 mbar abs and an operating pressure of 2.2 bar rel. The pump heads are made of resilient PPS; the valves and seals come in a choice of highly chemically resistant materials such as FFKM, FKM or EPDM; and the diaphragm is made of FKM, PTFE or EPDM.

Another great choice for delivering cleaner printheads, and therefore consistently high print quality, is the N 96 diaphragm pump series. This series boasts excellent adjustable control of the pump drive, meaning it can accommodate even complex operating profiles. For both printhead cleaning and purging, it delivers a flow rate of up to 8.5 l/min. The pump can also start up without discharge in the range of 2.5 bar relative pressure to 100 mbar abs vacuum.
